502,000 CZK for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the Czech Republic

The Muscular Dystrophy Association in the Czech Republic (AMD ČR) which brings together patients with muscular dystrophy (ie. Myopathy) and other neuromuscular diseases is a nationwide non-profit organization operating in the Czech Republic. Muscular dystrophics are one of the most handicapped and many of them have to rely on use of wheelchairs and on help provided by other people with all the negative consequences that arise from this fact. It has been financed a lot of smaller as well as larger projects from this year's donation of 502,000 CZK.

Thanks to the sum of 20,000 CZK, it was possible to organize the 8th MDA RIDE Cup, an annual chess tournament of disabled men and women, in Hodonín u Kunštátu. This tournament is played by so called Swiss system for 7 rounds irrespective of disability or performance.

The publishing of the Zpravodaj AMD newsletter is an important part of the AMD ČR activities. It is published quarterly to inform members on both, own AMD ČR activities as well as news of medical science and neuromuscular diseases research. And thanks to the contribution of 30,000 CZK, this newsletter can continue to bring news related to neuromuscular diseases from abroad, and be the a basis for mutual exchange of experiences and views of the patients.

Thanks to our contribution of 40,000 CZK, the one of the most popular reconditioning camps for the AMD ČR members has been held again at the Makarska Riviera in August. Warm climate, salty air and seawater have clearly beneficial impact on a condition of muscular dystrophy patients. The lift at the pier allows to disabled persons in wheelchairs a direct access to the sea. Additionally, there has been another lift available at the pool with warm seawater this year in the hotel where the participants are regularly accommodated. The pool is used during bad weather. There were also available two assistants who have helped the participants into the sea and during rehabilitation.

We could also contribute 246,000 CZK to 7 other AMD ČR projects and 166,000 CZK to 10 individual AMD ČR members for necessary devices and equipment.
