A Promising Czech Tennis Player Supports MDA RIDE
12. March 2017
Andrew Paulson, a fifteen-years tennis player and the 2015 European champion in the doubles up to 14 years, has climbed in the ITF Juniors rankings from 1652nd up to 580th place last year. He ended in the quarterfinals of the ITF tournaments in Sofia, Milan or Milovice in the singles category up to 16 years and he even won for instance the ŽLTC Cup in Brno (singles) and Bohdan Tomaszewski Cup in Warsaw (doubles). Then in Dubai, he advanced to the semifinals where they were with his Finnish partner defeated by a Spanish pair.
Apart from the mentioned victory in doubles at the 2015 European Championships in Plzeň, for instance the victory in singles and doubles at the 2015 Tennis Europe international tournament for players up to 14 years in Liepaie, Latvia can be included among his previous great tennis successes, too. Andy, as he is called by everybody, regularly plays in the junior category for TK Sparta Praha club whose long history began in 1905. The list of great male and female players who have played here and of many young talents who have found their way from here to the world scene is equally long. If he is lucky, he can practice with some of the Czech top players such as Radek Štěpánek, Lukáš Rosol, sisters Karolína and Kristýna Plíšková and more.
He has played tennis since the age of three years and he managed to get already to 385th place thanks to his hard work and self-discipline this year. And he wants to fight even more and to get into the top 150 juniors in the world. He is spending the next March weeks at international ITF Juniors tournaments in Tashkent and Namangan, Uzbekistan and between them two he still will manages to play at the Czech Indoor Championship in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. Every year, he attends about twenty larger or smaller tournaments. And meanwhile, he is training, playing the domestic competition, hosting in one German club, and of course attending his high school education in Prague.
Andy is looking forward to meet with the boys from Parent Project and he would love to come to play boccia to Nová Paka this May if his busy schedule allows him. We are honored to include Andy to the MDA RIDE Advocates group alongside the other (adult) celebrities who help and support MDA RIDE. We keep our fingers crossed for him to be more famous and successful one day than both Tomáš Berdych or Petra Kvitová are today.
